  • Freedom

    Galatians 3:22

“Happy is the man who casts from him all that can stain or burden his conscience.”

              Thomas a’ Kempis

“Freedom is just another word for nothin’ left to lose.”

I continue to stand firm in the belief that many continue to view Christianity through tainted thoughts.  A good friend of mine recently had a chance to have an extended conversation with a man who is a Muslim.  This guy had asked my friend if he could ask him some questions about Christianity.  My friend obliged this request and they went on to have an amazingly enlightening conversation about Christianity and Islam.  The first thing this Muslim gentleman asked about was something that he really didn’t understand about Christians.  It was something to the effect that after having made this decision for Jesus, why do these Christians just go about their lives and there is no change - there is nothing different?

My friend was frustrated but totally understanding of this question.  He explained that that was not how it is supposed to be.  There is to be a change.  Sometimes it takes time and it requires effort and discipline, but if someone is really following Jesus, there will be a change.  That change needs to start on the inside and work to the outside and the change is anchored in the certainty of salvation for eternity.  That certainty brings some amazing freedom for those who are following Jesus.

When a person meets Jesus and makes Him Lord of their lives, one of the first things they find is freedom.  Freedom in forgiveness of sins.  Freedom in laying down their past at His feet and moving forward in life with a new direction, a new purpose, and a confirmed destination for eternity.  That freedom is not be abused.  That freedom came at a horrific price and is not be wasted.  We have nothing left to lose.  We have given it all to Christ.  The past is behind us.  It is no more.  Before us we have life, and a life that can be lived to the fullest so that others might see what God really has to offer.
